It turns out that what began as something not at all complimentary has proven to be beneficial. According to a study conducted by Professor Jackie Andrade, of the School of Psychology at the University of Plymouth in England, doodling mediates between thinking too much and thinking too little, and thus helps a person focus on the current situation. Doodling participants in her research recalled 29% more information on a surprise memory test.
If you doodle, what benefits or satisfactions do you derive from it? Is it a way to become absorbed rather than wait impatiently? Does it help you warm up before moving on to the project at hand?
As an artist, do you move from medium to medium and then integrate several media? Or do you keep them separate and work with them during different periods? How does the medium influence your creativity?
