Why do we bother with repetition? Depending on the organization of elements, it can generate visual power--interest, movement, dynamic energy, harmony or unity. The rhythm can be slow or fast-paced, pulling our eyes vertically, horizontally, diagonally, or circularly. It can be fluid or jagged. In the illustration below, would one man on horseback capture our attention as much as the pattern and rhythm created by repeating the motif? Doesn't the repetition make us curious to examine it more closely?
